As part of the ‘Freedom: Public Conversations’ programme of events and discussions organised by artist Ruth Beale, I will be running a dystopian worldbuilding workshop in Lincoln.
The ‘Freedom: Public Conversations’ programme seeks to explore ideas around freedom, and will be presented alongside ‘All the Banners (Silent)’. Ruth’s hand-made blank banners are interpretations of real banners used in protests & rallies from protests and rallies including Justice for Grenfell, Suffragette marches and the pit closures.
What happens when our freedoms are curtailed? What would your dystopian land of the ‘unfree’ look like? The workshop will be suitable for both new and seasoned writers.

Sounds really interesting. Especially when freedoms are slowly dissolved and misdirection is employed so the majority doesn’t even notice until it feels too late. Or the indifference, like when Facebook explains certain rights and freedoms are forfeited if you use it, but people use it anyway.
Absolutely. It’s amazing what we’ll happily sacrifice, either without knowing or caring.
